The Marietta Blau quantum optics ground station was built in 2025 on the Hafelekar at an altitude of 2,265 metres. It is connected via fibre-optic cable to the quantum optics laboratories at the University of Innsbruck.

On 17 April 1912, Victor Franz Hess was forced to make an emergency landing with his gas balloon in the Waldviertel region. In memory of this event, a memorial stone was unveiled on 5 October 2025 at the site of his emergency landing.
