    Notes[Sill.]:  Crookes [Sill. ] Journal: In this context, reference is made to a publication in 1903 in “Silliman’s Journal” (American Journal of Science= AJS), volume 16, page 264. Hess probably referred to the previous paper by William Crookes in the AJS of October 01, 1879 “On radiant matter; a lecture delivered to the British Association for the Advancement of Science, at Sheffield, Friday, August 22, 1879”
