    ContentHess describes the radium burn he suffered on his thumb and that his doctor, Dr Leo Kumer, advised him to have a transplant. Hess writes that he went to Dr Breitner, who, after reviewing the test results, advised him to have his thumb amputated. Hess enclosed a sketch of his thumb.
    Finally, he asks Meyer for advice on whether he should have his thumb amputated or to consult another specialist in Vienna.
